With several of the next six months commissions involving a high proportion of veneered work, we have made the decision to upgrade our veneer press from a manually operated ‘screw press’ to a new hydraulically driven press with oil heated plattens, enabling us to press larger panels and to improve the quality of our veneering facility.

Stuart Webster has joined shawstephens as a senior cabinetmaker, bringing over 10 years experience in specialist furniture making to the workshop.
Following graduation from Bucks Chilterns University College in 1996, Stuart has worked in a number of high profile workshops, where he has produced award winning pieces made to exceptionally high standards.
We welcome his knowledge and expertise which will be invaluable when dealing with the more challenging pieces of furniture we are asked to design and make.

Between the 12th and 23rd of September we shall be opening the workshop as part of the Devon Art Works open studio event, where over 570 Devon artists are opening their studios to visitors. Dominic Gocher has joined shawstephens as we embark upon an exciting new project involving design consultation, manufacture, and installation of a signature kitchen for a client in Cornwall.

Since graduating with an honours degree in Furniture and Related Product Design from Brunel University, High Wycombe in 1997, Dominic has worked in London, Australia and the South West, gaining several years professional design and furniture making experience alongside developing his own design work and projects.
Dominic’s design experience and CAD knowledge will be invaluable in working through our more complex commissions.
